STAN Code Of Conduct

The Student Television Alumni Network (STAN) exists to support the interests and development of our alumni community. We aim to support our alumni by fostering a platform for connection, championing their successes, and providing an opportunity to network and socialise within the community. Our core values are inclusivity, respect and responsibility.

This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected of all members of the STAN Committee and of everyone representing the network in any capacity.

Our Values

Inclusivity

The alumni community contains wide ranging diversity. We embrace and actively encourage voices from all backgrounds to be heard.

Respect

We have mutual respect for every member of our committee team, and aim to treat everyone in our alumni network and wider community with dignity and consideration. Whether online or in person, we commit to engaging respectfully, listening to others, and maintaining a collaborative, positive environment.

Responsibility

As representatives of a professional creative industry, we recognise our duty to communicate appropriately and act with integrity. We are especially mindful when engaging with students and early-career professionals at STAN or NaSTA events. Every member contributes to the reputation of STAN and, by extension, to the reputation of the wider alumni community.

Our Behaviour Standards

We are proud to represent STAN and reject any behaviour that could be considered harassment, bullying or discrimination. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unwelcome remarks, either in person or online

  • Inappropriate gestures or physical contact

  • Circulation of any offensive or suggestive material

  • Offensive or derogatory jokes

  • Verbal or physical abuse

  • Discriminatory behaviour

All committee members are expected to uphold these standards at all times, whether at official events, in online communications, or during informal interactions that reflect upon STAN.

Support

STAN is determined to help our community with advice and support, via our Ask An Alum and CV Clinic schemes or any email communication. We agree to offer this advice with best intentions, and in an appropriate forum. We are not permitted to offer counselling or guidance with regards to mental health issues. We should look to direct such inquiries to appropriate professional organisations in a timely fashion.

Committee Participation

STAN is run by a voluntary committee of alumni. Each committee member is expected to:

  • Attend monthly meetings (or send apologies in advance if unable to attend).

  • Participate actively in discussions and decision-making.

  • Represent STAN positively and uphold the principles of this Code of Conduct in all interactions.

By joining STAN committee, members agree to uphold this Code of Conduct.

Concerns or breaches should be raised confidentially with the Chair, who will address them promptly and fairly.
