2024 is a very special year – it's the 60th birthday of GUST, the world's oldest student-run station.
On October 9th, STAN had the pleasure of hosting an online celebration. The event brought together GUSTies from as far back as the early 1970s, right up to the present day members of the station. Indeed, a jam-packed GUST studio were in attendance to commemorate the milestone anniversary.
Former GUST Controller Sarah Battensby led proceedings, with a walk down memory lane to the GUST 50 celebrations. She touched on the GUST archive project, and stressed the importance of preserving this history for future generations. She credited her current role as a professional archivist to her experiences within student television – a message that will resonate with countless alumni now working in the industry.
Sarah has collated an extensive array of information on the GUST archives and beyond:
Emma Yan from the University of Glasgow archive department was also present, encouraging any alumni who have GUST material from the past to get in touch. If this sounds like you, please drop her a line: emma.yan@glasgow.ac.uk
This unforgettable event not only honored the station’s rich history but also showcased the enduring connections and impact GUST has had over its six-decade journey.
